Cannabis History in Angola:
Cannabis is known locally as diamba or liamba. Angola is a drug trafficking hub for cocaine and other illicit drugs as they move from Latin America and African countries such as Nigeria and South Africa. Cannabis is however, the countries most consumed illegal substance. Cannabis was banned starting in the 1920's, and offences today are punished by heavy fines and prison time. While cannabis has been legalized in neighboring countries Zambia and Zimbabwe, Angola, still bolstered its stance against marijuana at the UN Commission on Narcotics and Drugs in 2022.
